Ponant Le Lyrial cruise ship in the Mediterranean

Last July, my family did an 8-night Mediterranean cruise on Ponant’s Le Lyrial — traveling with our two kids (8 and 10). If you love the idea of a small-ship cruise that still feels elevated, with great service and way fewer crowds than the mega-ships, this is exactly what our experience was like. This Ponant Le Lyrial family cruise review captures our overall impressions.

Would I recommend Ponant for families? Yes — especially if your priorities are calm, comfort, and thoughtful service over water slides and nonstop onboard entertainment. The ship felt refined but still easy with kids, and the smaller passenger count made everything smoother.

Accommodation

We stayed in Deluxe Balcony staterooms (323 and 325) and they felt genuinely spacious for a family cruise. The balconies were a big win — and we loved that we could remove the divider between the balconies to connect the rooms and make it feel more like one shared space. The Ponant Le Lyrial family cruise truly offered ideal accommodations.

Kids Club:

We were honestly surprised (in a good way) to find a kids club onboard. It’s not going to compete with the huge kids facilities on the mega cruise lines — but our kids were entertained, happy, and even said it was the best kids club they’ve experienced. This cruise seemed built for a memorable family experience, as evident in this review.

Port Stops

This is where Ponant really shines. Because the ship is smaller, the ports felt more intimate and the logistics were easy: less waiting, faster disembarkation, and smaller tour groups that felt more personal and organized. These standout features are part of why I felt compelled to write this Ponant Le Lyrial cruise review.

Food and Dining

The dining experience exceeded our expectations. There are two restaurants with plenty of seating, and everything felt calm and well-run. If I had one note, it would be that we hoped for a little more variety in the included house wines — but overall, the food and experience were excellent. Truly, the culinary aspect of our Ponant Le Lyrial family cruise deserves its own review.

Pool Deck

Another surprise: the pool deck was never crowded. We were able to relax without feeling like we had to claim chairs early or fight for space — which is exactly the vibe I want on vacation. This aspect of our time on Ponant is a highlight of our family cruise experience.

Service

With only 122 passengers onboard, the service felt noticeably more personal. Our tour manager, Nina, was incredible — and even helped arrange an English-speaking guide for an excursion that was otherwise French-only. That kind of proactive support made the trip feel easy from start to finish. In essence, our Ponant Le Lyrial cruise review hinges on such outstanding service.

Final Verdict

If you want a family-friendly Mediterranean cruise that feels more intimate, more relaxed, and more elevated than the big cruise lines, Ponant is absolutely worth considering. We’re already talking about booking them again — the combination of service, low crowds, and smooth logistics made the experience feel truly special.

If you’re considering Ponant and want help choosing the best ship/cabin setup (especially for families), I’m happy to help you compare options and plan the right itinerary.
